Odd custom paint request

  • by

I commonly tint my primers for surfaces I intend to texture, making it easier to notice thin areas and to gain a more consistent finish and pattern. I used to carry a dye rack on my truck to custom mix paints colors. I had a client (Barry Reiger) that wanted a color of blue/green/gray but could not find the specific color in any store, so knowing this, I decided to tint my primer a blue so I would get better coverage on my final coat of paint. I arrived the next morning and Mrs. Reiger had exclaimed I nailed the color she was searching for, but it did not exist anywhere, so I brought my can of tinted primer to Benjamin Moore and had them color match it for me and save the formula and went on to sell that color (78 Blueige) to several more clients including on cabinet projects and the exterior of several homes.
